Nalanda trains 320.8 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, better than the typical district. 19.4% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
75% of registered enterprises are in services while 25% are in manufacturing. Only 2% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. 60% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 10% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Nalanda, which ranks 2 of 38 in Bihar for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 46.5 out of 100. It trails the national picture on women in the labour force at 25.5%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 95.4%, it sits close to the national mark.
