24 jobs have been generated through self-employment loans in Lahaul and Spiti. 60.8% of jobs overall are self-employment, close to the typical district. The D-JAY(S) Urban Livelihoods unit works this ground, helping urban youth set up and sustain small enterprises.
88% of registered enterprises are in services while 12% are in manufacturing. Only 1% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 51% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12).
In Lahaul and Spiti, which ranks 12 of 12 in Himachal Pradesh for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 51.7 out of 100. On women-owned enterprises at 25.7%, it sits close to the national mark. The district has 1,033 registered service enterprises.
