Dumka has 683.8 ITI seats per lakh youth, close to the typical district. Of these, 49.7% sit in government institutes, behind the typical district. The Private ITI fills the remaining share of trade training capacity in the district.
77% of registered enterprises are in services while 23% are in manufacturing. Only 3% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 55% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 9% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Dumka, which ranks 14 of 24 in Jharkhand for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 44.4 out of 100. It trails the national picture on skilling enrolment per lakh youth at 97.9 and apprentices per lakh youth at 47.4.
