Gumla trains 101.2 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 27.8% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
82% of registered enterprises are in services while 18% are in manufacturing. Only 2% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 46% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 10% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Gumla, which ranks 16 of 24 in Jharkhand for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 44.1 out of 100. On skilling trainees who get certified at 97% and women in the labour force at 45.8%, it sits close to the national mark.
