Latehar trains 151.8 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 27.8% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
80% of registered enterprises are in services while 20% are in manufacturing. Only 2% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 55% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12).
In Latehar, which ranks 13 of 24 in Jharkhand for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 45.1 out of 100. On skilling trainees who get certified at 96% and women in the labour force at 45.8%, it sits close to the national mark.
