78% of registered enterprises are in services while 22% are in manufacturing. Only 5% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 51% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). 70% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Kolar, which ranks 7 of 31 in Karnataka for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 51.3 out of 100. It trails the national picture on skilling trainees who get certified at 62.1%. On women in the labour force at 46.2%, it sits close to the national mark.
