Udupi trains 304.8 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, better than the typical district. 11.5% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
78% of registered enterprises are in services while 22% are in manufacturing. Only 6% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. 83% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 37% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Udupi, which ranks 5 of 31 in Karnataka for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 53.5 out of 100. It trails the national picture on women in the labour force at 41.9%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 87%, it sits close to the national mark.
