Uttara Kannada trains 71.6 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 11.1% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
78% of registered enterprises are in services while 22% are in manufacturing. Only 3% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. 63% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). 51% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Uttara Kannada, which ranks 10 of 31 in Karnataka for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 50.9 out of 100. It trails the national picture on women in the labour force at 43.3%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 98.6%, it sits close to the national mark.
