Alappuzha trains 160.7 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 21.9% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
74% of registered enterprises are in services while 26% are in manufacturing. Only 5% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. 69% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 38% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Alappuzha, which ranks 4 of 15 in Kerala for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 57.5 out of 100. On skilling trainees who get certified at 95.3% and women in the labour force at 51.6%, it sits close to the national mark.
