Thrissur trains 50.6 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 21.3% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
72% of registered enterprises are in services while 28% are in manufacturing. Only 7% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. 65% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 33% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Thrissur, which ranks 9 of 15 in Kerala for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 55.7 out of 100. The district runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 54.1%, while it lags on skilling trainees who get certified at 80.2%.
