Katni trains 542 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, better than the typical district. 55.8% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, behind the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
82% of registered enterprises are in services while 18% are in manufacturing. Only 8% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 49% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 35% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Katni, which ranks 23 of 55 in Madhya Pradesh for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 44 out of 100. On skilling trainees who get certified at 93.7% and women in the labour force at 48.8%, it sits close to the national mark.
