Mumbai Suburban trains 90.2 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 24.5% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
79% of registered enterprises are in services while 21% are in manufacturing. Only 11% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 59% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 27% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Mumbai Suburban, which ranks 2 of 36 in Maharashtra for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 63.8 out of 100. It trails the national picture on skilling trainees who get certified at 84.5% and women in the labour force at 31.4%.
