77% of registered enterprises are in services while 23% are in manufacturing. Only 21% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 59% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 12% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Mumbai, which ranks 1 of 36 in Maharashtra for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 66.4 out of 100. It runs ahead of the national picture on ITI seats in government institutes at 85.3%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 92.5%, it sits close to the national mark.
