77% of registered enterprises are in services while 23% are in manufacturing. Only 21% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 59% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 12% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Mumbai, which ranks 1 of 36 in Maharashtra for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 66.4 out of 100. The district runs ahead of the national picture on apprentices per lakh youth at 4,633.4, while it lags on skilling enrolment per lakh youth at 90.2.
