East Garo Hills trains 105.3 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, behind the typical district. 28% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
54% of registered enterprises are in services while 46% are in manufacturing. Only 3% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 51% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12).
In East Garo Hills, which ranks 5 of 12 in Meghalaya for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 44 out of 100. It runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 67.2%.
