The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
72% of registered enterprises are in services while 28% are in manufacturing. Only 48% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12).
In Eastern West Khasi Hills, which ranks 9 of 12 in Meghalaya for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 40.7 out of 100. The district runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 67.2%, while it lags on skilling trainees who get certified at 74.8%.
