The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
59% of registered enterprises are in services while 41% are in manufacturing. Only 1% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 51% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12).
In South West Khasi Hills, which ranks 11 of 12 in Meghalaya for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 40 out of 100. The district runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 67.2%, while it lags on skilling trainees who get certified at 54.5%.
