Kohima trains 797.8 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, better than the typical district. 14.4% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
79% of registered enterprises are in services while 21% are in manufacturing. Only 2% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. 61% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 15% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Kohima, which ranks 3 of 17 in Nagaland for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 54.5 out of 100. It runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 61%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 97.4%, it sits close to the national mark.
