Mon trains 313.7 youth per lakh under short-term skilling programmes, better than the typical district. 29.8% of young women aged 15 to 21 are out of education, better than the typical district. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
75% of registered enterprises are in services while 25% are in manufacturing. Only 1% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 32% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12).
In Mon, which ranks 15 of 17 in Nagaland for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 45.8 out of 100. The district runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 67.1%, while it lags on skilling trainees who get certified at 80.7%.
