73% of registered enterprises are in services while 27% are in manufacturing. Only 2% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 56% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 34% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Tarn Taran, which ranks 15 of 23 in Punjab for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 51.3 out of 100. It trails the national picture on women in the labour force at 28.5%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 90.9%, it sits close to the national mark.
