The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
80% of registered enterprises are in services while 20% are in manufacturing. Only 4% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 56% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 7% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Namchi, which ranks 2 of 6 in Sikkim for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 57.7 out of 100. It runs ahead of the national picture on women in the labour force at 68.8%. On skilling trainees who get certified at 90.3%, it sits close to the national mark.
