Government-funded skill training in India: PMKVY, JSS, RSETI, and state programmes

PMKVY remains the largest short-course skill programme in India, training around twelve to fifteen lakh young people per year. JSS centres serve districts with low formal-skill access. RSETIs run rural self-employment training. State governments add their own specialised programmes — Telangana TASK, Karnataka Skill Mission, Maharashtra MSSDS — covering specific industries.

What to look for when applying

Most courses are free for the trainee, with travel and food stipend in some cases. Course duration ranges from 200 to 600 hours. Certificates are issued by NSDC for PMKVY courses and by the relevant SSC for trade-specific qualifications.
