In Lahaul and Spiti, 28.5% of children under five are stunted, better than the typical Indian district. The Anganwadi centre is the frontline for changing that: supplementary nutrition, growth monitoring, and pre-school for children up to six.

In Lahaul and Spiti, which ranks 11 of 12 in Himachal Pradesh for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 52.7 out of 100. The district runs ahead of the national picture on households in the poorest wealth group at 14.4%, while it lags on women who are anaemic at 81.8%.
