88% of registered enterprises are in services while 12% are in manufacturing. Only 1% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 42% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). 50% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Lahaul and Spiti, which ranks 11 of 12 in Himachal Pradesh for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 52.7 out of 100. It trails the national picture on employment in small and medium enterprises at 0.8% and value added per enterprise worker at ₹76,322.
