The Jan Shikshan Sansthan focuses non-formal skilling on dropouts and women who need a route back into livelihoods without returning to a classroom.
72% of registered enterprises are in services while 28% are in manufacturing. Only 2% of employment is in small and medium enterprises. Only 57% of school-age children are enrolled in higher secondary school (classes 9–12). Only 7% of ITI trainers are certified.
In Nilgiris, which ranks 20 of 38 in Tamil Nadu for youth opportunity, the overall opportunity score is 50.9 out of 100. On skilling trainees who get certified at 98.2% and women in the labour force at 49.3%, it sits close to the national mark.
